Soredemo has no window until there is something to edit. It sits in your menu bar and your notch, and its face tells you whether it is waiting, counting, recording, paused or done.

Click it in the menu bar, pick a screen, a window or an area, and press Record.

  • Record your whole screen, one window, or an area you drag out
  • Plug in an iPhone or iPad and record its screen, too

why

Every time a class project needed a demo video, I hit the same wall. The screen recorders everyone recommends want a subscription, and the free ones stamp a watermark across your work.

Most students can’t pay for a recorder just to present a project. So the demo gets skipped — or it looks worse than the work behind it.

So I’m building the one I wanted. It zooms in on what you actually clicked, captions your voice on your Mac, and never puts a watermark on your video.

It’s free and MIT licensed, and the code will be open for anyone to read and build on. It isn’t out yet — join the waitlist and you’ll get one email, on launch day.

Quick answers about Soredemo.

what is soredemo?

A Mac screen recorder made for product demos. Start it from the menu bar or the notch, record your screen, and Soredemo zooms in on everything you click — then lets you fine-tune every zoom.

what is the notch recorder?

On a MacBook with a notch, Soredemo’s controls live right in it. Point at the notch to start a recording, and watch the timer there while it runs. Prefer the floating bar? Turn it off in Settings.

can it record my iphone or ipad?

Yes. Plug it in and unlock it, and it shows up in the menu bar panel next to Screen, Window and Area. Zooms on a phone recording are yours to place — iOS doesn’t tell a Mac where you tap — but pair a Bluetooth mouse to the device and there’s a cursor to follow. You can even show the recording inside the device it was made on.

can i download it?

Not yet. The app works end to end and is signed and notarised — we’re getting the release ready. Join the waitlist and you’ll get one email the day it launches.

does anything leave my mac?

Nope. The app has no network code at all: no account, no tracking, nothing to switch off. Even transcription runs on your Mac.

what does it need?

A Mac with Apple Silicon on macOS 26 or later. Saving the last 15 seconds needs macOS 27; everything else works on 26.

can it save something that already happened?

Yes, on macOS 27: grab the last 15 seconds without stopping your recording. If keeping that buffer would slow the recording down, Soredemo drops the buffer so your recording stays smooth.

which languages?

English, 繁體中文, 简体中文, 日本語, 한국어, Deutsch, Español, Français, Português (Brasil) and Русский.

is it open source?

It’s MIT licensed. The code isn’t public yet — when it opens, it opens under MIT, with credit to every project it learned from.

will it edit videos i already have?

No. The automatic zooms use what Soredemo captures while you record — your clicks and what was under them — and an imported video doesn’t have that.

does it post to x or instagram?

No. It makes a video worth posting; where you post it is up to you.

why the name?

それでも — soredemo, “even so.” Like a daruma: knocked down seven times, up eight. A daruma waiting on its second eye is kept where you will see it every day, and Soredemo’s is in your menu bar. You shipped it. Now announce it.
